GHANA AND EU LAUNCH AGRIBUSINESS PLATFORM TO INCREASE INVESTMENTS

The European Union delegation to Ghana in partnership with the European Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana has launched the Ghana-EU Agribusiness Platform in Accra.

The platform will serve as a convenient space for agribusiness actors and stakeholders in Ghana and the EU to connect and exchange for wider business and partnership opportunities.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive of the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana, Anthony Morrison said the platform has been set up to promote agribusiness, technology, investments, and trade among others. The expectations are that this platform will transform and enhance the credibility of Ghanaian and African businesses”.

He also said the platform would ensure that the data of members are protected. It would be done through the application of the EU data protection law and that of Ghana to ensure that they do not infringe on the privacy of members or provide undue advantage to competitors in the market.

He stated that the project will look at companies or businesses that are legally registered. “Also, any business that signs up ought to belong to any of the recognized associations,” he said.

Treasurer of the European Chamber of Commerce, Andrea Ghia highlighted the benefits Ghanaian companies could gain from European markets when they sign up for the platform.

“We know very well that the agriculture sector is the most active and grows much better compared to other sectors. This was proven during the covid-19 pandemic. The sector has potential in terms of quantity, quality, and skills improvement, and through the platform, you can access information from the West,” he said.

The First Trade Counsellor of the Delegation of the EU to Ghana, Mr. Raffaele Quarto said the Union is seeking to create a strategic linkage with Africa.

The setup of the Platform was funded by the European Union Delegation to Ghana and will be managed by the European Chamber of Commerce in Ghana in partnership with the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana.

The Platform is created as part of the broader vision of establishing the AU-EU Agri-Food Platform envisaged to be an instrument to catalyze sustainable and inclusive investments in agriculture on the African continent.
